Loading & Unloading Zones
Staff will perform initial on-site inspections of areas where a loading and unloading zone has been requested.
If the zone is warranted, the process may take several months, as all passenger, freight, and active loading zones require Hawai‘i County Council approval. We recommend reviewing the Stopping for loading and unloading regulations on pages 24-56 and 24-57 (PDF) of the Hawaiʻi County Code Chapter 24 before requesting a loading or unloading zone.
To request a Loading and Unloading zone please provide a photo of the area and:
- Your contact information
- Location of the zone
- Area (i.e. North Hilo, Puna, South Kona)
- TMK
- Street name/physical address
- Description of the area (landmarks)
- Type of zone (passenger, freight, or active)
- Reason for request
